Best gifts for Fibromyalgia moms

The best gifts for moms with Fibromyalgia are those that provide self-care, distraction, comfort, and laughs.

After all, most moms put themselves on the back burner to care for their family, keep the house clean, and work.

Therefore, self-care items are fantastic at coaxing them to finally pencil in some time for themselves.

But Fibro mommies also deal with nearly constant pain and discomfort.

So anything comforting and that distracts from the pain will help when they have a flare.

Without further ado, here are the best gifts for Fibromyalgia moms:

1. At-home cupping set

Studies have shown positive results from a popular massage technique called myofascial release, which includes reduced pain and better sleep.

The Lure Essential Edge Cupping Set helps you achieve a soothing myofascial release at home.

The cups can be placed on and moved around the neck, shoulders, back, legs, and feet. And they’re so simple to apply.

You only need one hand to suction it onto your skin. It’s perfect for busy moms.

I got the Edge cups for Mother’s Day this year, and hands down, it’s the best at-home tool I own to reduce Fibro pain.

I’ll place two cups on my back if it’s achy (they hide well under semi-loose shirts; I walk around the house with them all the time), and I love leaving them on my legs when I’m in bed and enthralled in my latest show!

I’ll do it when I’m sitting and working too. I smooth on coconut oil or lotion to help them stick and pop them on.

Lure has other cups, but the Edge is specifically for inflammation, muscle, and nerve pain.

2. Cotton clothes

Many Fibromyalgia moms suffer from allodynia, pain from something that shouldn’t be painful, like the brush of a feather against the skin.

Clothes are often uncomfortable, and many of the styles in the stores don’t suit people who suffer from this (i.e., tight leggings and thick baggy jeans). Therefore, consider gifting your favorite mom comfortable cotton clothes.

Comfortable clothes should be a size or two up from their actual size to avoid too much material touching the skin. So when in doubt, get the larger size.

Cotton fabric is a crucial factor, too, because many other fabrics feel too rough or are synthetic and more likely to cause a rash.

For example, scratchy wool and synthetic spandex.

I live in these T-shirts:

3. Massage gift card

One of the best gifts for moms for Christmas is a massage package from their favorite spot. After all, who doesn’t like a relaxing massage?

But, of course, you can expect to pay about $50-$150 per session.

4. Acupuncture gift card

Acupuncture has been shown to reduce chronic pain, and many Fibromyalgia patients respond positively to even 1 acupuncture session. It’s where thin needles are placed into the skin, with specific body parts targeting certain symptoms or ailments.

The practitioner may leave the needles in the skin for about 30 minutes. They may also gently twirl the needles while embedded in the skin to cause the body to release its natural painkillers

Altogether, acupuncture is a relaxing experience that any Fibromyalgia mom would love to enjoy!

Many acupuncturists offer massage at their practice, so check if they offer gift cards too!

5. CBD cream

CBD cream is a lotion that’s infused with cannabidiol. Cannabidiol is a chemical that comes from the Cannabis plant. It’s non-psychoactive but still has health benefits.

For example, studies show that CBD eases anxiety and calms the nervous system. That’s excellent news because the nervous system stays highly alert in people with FM.

6. CBD liquid capsules

Like CBD cream, CBD liquid capsules contain cannabidiol.

Capsules are great to take at bedtime for a good night’s rest and are a discreet way to get some relief while you’re on the go (and you probably won’t be tempted to share as you would with CBD gummies!).

7. Fibromyalgia cookbooks

Even though takeout may be a staple with your Fibro friend, she probably still enjoys cooking herself (and likely her family!) a delicious home-cooked meal.

Inspire her with cookbooks tailored to Fibromyalgia diets and those with under 30-minute recipes.

Soup cookbooks are a super choice, too, because a large batch of soup can be frozen for another meal and reheated when low-energy days strike.

8. Adult coloring books

Adult coloring books are a fun way to relax and distract from the pain. Plus, they double as perfect stocking stuffers!

I adore this coloring book full of inspiring quotes. For example, “Keep going. Even if you need to take a nap first.”

She will definitely laugh at and love this one:

9. Washable coloring cloth

Another fun (and eco-friendly) way to distract from the pain is by coloring your heart out on a washable coloring cloth by Modern Cloth Co. These cloths are for kids. Still, they are addictively fun for adults too.

I suggest including some washable crayons and markers; she’ll be all set on Christmas day when she needs a breather!

10. Streaming subscription service

She might have them all, but chances are she’s missing one of the many streaming services.

So from Paramount Plus and Amazon Prime to Apple TV and HBO Max, suss out what she doesn’t have and give her a subscription to help her pass the time, tiredness, and pain.

Here’s how to gift a streaming service subscription from Vulture.

11. Plush blanket

A cozy plush blanket is a must for flare days spent on the couch or in bed.

12. Compression socks

Are compression socks good gifts for moms for Christmas? Yes, they are if you’re a Fibro mom!

Compression socks help increase blood flow in the legs, which decreases swelling and pain

I wondered if compression socks existed in fun designs beyond boring black. And yep, they do

13. Heated blanket

One of the hallmark symptoms of FM is deep muscle pain. Studies show that heat helps relieve achy muscles.

Therefore, why not choose a heated blanket for your friend on Christmas? It’ll be a godsend whether she walked too long at Disney and her legs are throbbing Jello or she has her monthly flow.

14. Positive affirmation cards

Encourage positivity, and it will come. Since I started intentionally being more mindful and practicing gratitude, my Fibromyalgia has dramatically improved.

For example, my first thoughts in the morning and the last thing to think about before falling asleep are what I’m grateful for.

I use an app (the I Am app), and it’s like having a friend coaching me to be more kind to myself.

These cards are great because they are actual cards, so they’re perfect for displaying in random spots around the house, in your purse, or at your desk! They’re hilarious, too.

15. Funny coffee mug

Because laughter eases the pain, right?

16. Symptom tracker journal

If ya girl can barely keep up with her symptoms, help her out by giving her a symptom tracker.

These can be digital or notebook style, so determine her preference. Symptom trackers can help patients, and their doctors identify patterns in symptoms and weed out what works and what doesn’t.

She won’t have to worry about “remembering” it all at the doctor’s either because it will all be in the book.

17. Cleaning service gift certificate

During pain seasons, my house can go weeks without getting a vacuum. I’m sure your Fibro friend can relate.

Gifting her a cleaning service will help her get her house back in shape – or at least look a little cleaner for a while.

18. Takeout gift card

Having Fibromyalgia makes doing everyday things difficult, like making dinner.

It’s hard to stand up for so long and move your arms to whisk the batter. Bending down to reach the fridge can be back-breaking. And if she has kids, that work more than doubles.

So allow her to order pizza for delivery to keep her energy reserve up, and she’ll love you for it.

19. Grocery service subscription

Another way you can help her save her energy and time is by gifting her a subscription to Walmart Plus or Amazon Prime (or whatever grocery service she uses).

This way, she won’t have to drive around town, fight the crowds, and lug everything herself into the house (it’s so, so tiresome; sometimes, I need a recovery day the day after).

Luckily, about every retailer has a delivery service these days.

20. Emotional Agility book

I read Emotional Agility at the beginning of the year, which changed my life. I recommend it to everybody, but FM warriors need this information.

The book is about understanding your emotions and working with them, not against them.

Because of Emotional Agility, I learned to pause unhelpful thinking and rumination, ease my anxiety, and welcome all emotions. Even the ugly – like ugly crying from all the pain, aches, and guilt.

21. Set Boundaries, Find Peace book

Another one of the best gifts for Fibromyalgia is Set Boundaries, Find Peace by Nedra Tawwab.

If your Fibro mama in question struggles with people pleasing and denies their own needs and wants, she must read this book.

For instance, attending the holiday Christmas party, despite the week-long flare it’ll induce after.

This book has been wildly life-changing for me over the last 2 years!

22. Massage bar

Lush is a cosmetics company specializing in handmade and ethically-sourced skin and hair care products. Their massage bars melt right into the skin and, depending on the bar, have little nodules, grooves, or even beans to give the skin a good rub.

I’ve tried the Wiccy Magic Muscles bar (the beans one), and it’s like a natural Icy Hot for the skin. Smells like delicious spicy cinnamon and not old Walter.

It would make a delightful stocking stuffer!

23. Weighted blanket

Putting pressure on the body has been shown to reduce pain. This goes for people with Fibromyalgia. Which is funny since many Fibromites deal with allodynia, a painful response to what shouldn’t be painful (like wearing a T-shirt).

A weighted blanket is a cozy way to apply pressure, and it can be used whether streaming or snoozing. In addition, studies show that weighted blankets ease stress and anxiety and improve sleep, which reduces pain levels.

24. Essential oils

Aromatherapy is known to reduce pain whether it’s inhaled or applied to the skin. She can enjoy its benefits by adding a few drops of essential oil to her diffuser or by mixing it with a carrier oil for a bedtime massage after the kids settle into bed.

Try peppermint oil, lavender oil, and sandalwood oil

25. Yoga mat

Yoga relieves stress, stiffness, and pain. Many Fibromyalgia moms wake up before their kids do to squeeze in a session. And a new mat provides new motivation!

26. Online yoga class subscription

Hatha yoga teacher Francine Cipollone has 5-10 minute yoga classes on her YouTube page, Yoga With Bird. Her gentle yoga classes and soothing voice is hailed by many in the chronic illness community as a lifesaver (I’m a huge fan).

If the mama you’re buying for wants to dive deeper into her yoga practice, show her how much you care with a subscription to Bird’s members-only videos. The monthly subscription features half-hour to hour-long classes for intermediate and all yoga levels.

27. Special pillow

Sleep is often elusive with FM, not to mention neck, back, and shoulder pain. A lumpy old pillow doesn’t help, and that’s most likely what she’s sleeping on.

The Pillow Cube is a new kind of pillow. It’s a square pillow designed for side sleepers that reduces pain from poor posture while sleeping. In addition, the Pillow Cube aligns your spine by filling the space between your head and bed, unlike regular pillows that deflate and curve your neck.

I have a My Pillow (which I don’t recommend), but I’m thinking about getting a Pillow Cube when the time comes.

28. A Fibro-related t-shirt

If only a neon sign could stick to the forehead and flash when going through a flare. A cozy screen tee is the next best thing until that becomes a reality (which probably isn’t comfy anyway).

29. Reusable tissues

From feeling guilty over canceling plans and feeling like you’re not doing enough to trudging through the pain and fatigue, a lot of crying comes with FM. An eco-conscious swap for disposable tissues is reusable, washable ones from Marley’s Monsters.

These tissues come in solid colors and fun prints (like ocean animals, garden plants, and holiday themes) and can be tossed in the wash to be used again. I’m addicted to this store, and I bet you (and she) will be too!
